Artists Daphne Gale and W. H. Morgan are presenting LIGHTWAIT, an interdisciplinary exhibition that combines photography, installation art, and original music to explore themes of vulnerability, recovery, and human connection. The project invites visitors to slow down and engage with the space between inner and outer worlds through a curated environment designed for deep observation.

Running from September 1 to 5, 2026, at Safehouse 2 in London’s Peckham district, LIGHTWAIT seeks to counteract what the artists describe as a culture of relentless visibility. In an era where individuals are constantly encouraged to document and perform themselves for digital audiences, the exhibition asks what happens when people resist that speed.

The work fosters softer forms of recognition that are often difficult to articulate, including loneliness, intimacy, uncertainty, and memory. By creating a physical space for looking, listening, and being present, Gale and Morgan aim to highlight experiences of being understood in a world mediated by screens.

Gale, a French-American singer-songwriter and composer based in Brooklyn, New York, brings a musical practice focused on emotional contradiction and the areas between personal and universal experience. Her collaborator, W. H. Morgan, is a London-based photographer originally from Wales, whose work examines perception, interiority, and the relationship between people and their environments.

Together, the duo builds a conversation between sound and image, body and environment, and interior and exterior experience. Their collaboration is designed to make visible what becomes apparent when one inhabits both inner and outer worlds simultaneously.

The exhibition is housed in Safehouse 2, a stripped-back Victorian house on Copeland Road within Copeland Park. The artists selected this location specifically for its physical memory, noting that the space features exposed brick, crumbling plaster, and bricked-up windows. They describe the rooms as feeling more like a home than a conventional gallery, intending for the exhibition to feel inhabited rather than merely installed.

Peckham’s dense network of artists and community spaces provides a natural context for a project interested in the relationship between art and lived experience. Safehouse 2 sits within this longstanding creative hub in South London, offering a setting that aligns with the exhibition’s focus on authenticity and presence.

LIGHTWAIT will be open to the public daily from 12:00 to 18:00 during its five-day run. An opening evening is scheduled for September 1 at 19:00. Visitors are invited to look closely, listen, move through the work, and make their own connections.

For RSVPs and press enquiries, information is available at daphnegale.com.
